August can be a challenging month when it comes to staying on track with a regular fitness and nutrition regime. With summer now behind us and the nights drawing in, September feels like a fresh opportunity to refocus the mind.

We know that this isn't always easy so here are our top tips when it comes to getting back on track with your training and nutrition:

  • Schedule your training - In the holidays it can be easy to miss a workout - the kids are off school and hot weather can make it all too tempting to ditch the gym for a pub garden. To help you get back on track, put your gym workouts into your diary and commit yourself for that hour of the day. Just like you would if it was an appointment. That is your hour to look after yourself and you're not going to let anything get in the way of it.

  • Track your nutrition - Diets can often go by the wayside in the summer - especially when we're on holiday surrounded by new foods and the temptation of over indulging on alcohol. So how can we fix this? MyFitnessPal. At MHR Fitness we are massive advocates of MyFitnessPal which enables us to input our food consumption so we know how many calories we are consuming. This enables us to get back into that calorie deficit which is vital for fat loss. And if you really want to kick start your nutrition, we can recommend a pretty good premium food delivery service!

  • Sleep - A good night's sleep is vital for refreshing the body and refreshing the mind but in the warm barmy summer evenings this can sometimes be really hard to achieve. One way of sleeping better can be to turn off or mute your mobile phone when you go to bed. Having your phone next to you at night can cause too much temptation to check for messages or social media updates. Putting your phone on airplane mode at night reduces that temptation and cuts down on the amount of screen glare the body receives right before sleep.
