3 Tips on Achieving Your 2021 Health and Fitness Goals
Most of us are pretty familiar with excitedly setting health and fitness goals when a new year is approaching. These goals usually include losing weight, exercising more, cutting back on alcohol or reducing the amount of chocolate and sweets that we eat.
In this blog, we will give you our 3 tips on how to achieve that dream goal once and for all moving into 2021.
1. Identify your WHY
Identifying your why is going to create a solid foundation for you to take inspired actions that will lead to you achieving that goal. For example, if weight loss is your goal, keep asking yourself why you want to lose weight.
Your first response might be because you want to feel fit and healthy. Great, but why do you want to feel fit and healthy? To lose weight to play with your kids and feel confident about your body. Good, now you're starting to get a little closer to finding that why.
If you keep asking yourself “why?”, you will eventually get to the deeper reason you really want to achieve a specific goal. This deeper reason will carry you through those challenging times when you want to throw the towel in and give up.
2. Keep it realistic
Build an exercise regime that's realistic, sustainable and enjoyable. Imagine if you built an exercise regime that you enjoy and it compliments your life versus one you over-committed to from the beginning and didn’t only include exercise you enjoy the most.
Which one do you think is going to set you up for success the most?
We recommend exercising on the same days and times each week so that you can start to create a routine. You might want to consider scheduling these exercise time slots in your diary. Don't let anything override these time slots unless it's an emergency, of course.
Health and fitness is all about consistency over time to ensure you keep progressing towards your goals. Let's think long term and ensure our regime is sustainable.
3. Get someone to hold you accountable
Having someone that holds you accountable to take action can be very helpful. Learn to trust the process and depending on your goal, keep a record of how far you've run, the weights you've lifted or the foods you've eaten.
Seeing progress will give you that push to continue on your journey. As human beings, we love hitting targets and progressing. You could schedule a check-in with a trusted family member or friend and update them on your progress.
Hiring a personal trainer is a great way to create additional accountability. A trainer will also provide expertise in building the right training plan and developing the proper nutrition habits while ensuring you’re lifting weights safely and effectively.
