5 Ways To Stick To Your 2021 Health And Fitness New Year's Resolutions

We're nearly half way through January and this is around the time where most people throw the towel in on their health and fitness new year's resolutions.

So, in this post, we want to give you 5 simple ways that you can stick to your resolutions and achieve what you want to achieve this year.

1. Focus on the bigger picture

Try to break down your new year's resolution and work on it throughout the year.

A mistake some people make is they set themselves a January resolution. Health and fitness goes far beyond what happens in a month, and it's more than likely going to take more than 30 days to get to where you want to be.

Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. You will see the positive changes along the way which is going to give you that motivation you need to stay on track.

2. Make sure your resolution is achievable

Next, we want you to really think about your resolution. Ask yourself if it's sustainable and will you be able to do it for the whole year? If you answered no then you might want to consider making some adjustments. There is nothing wrong with course correcting and making some changes at this stage.

We want you to really focus on why you've set this resolution and think about the positive impact it's going to have on your life and the people around you. If you really dig deep and find the reason WHY you've set this resolution, this will give you a powerful reason to push through no matter what.

3. Measure your progress

We think measuring your progress is absolutely essential. We truly believe that if you don't measure your progress, you're going to make it a lot more challenging for yourself.

Every year we see so many people start off with great intentions. They commit to training 4 or 5 times per week, make improvements to their nutrition, cut back on alcohol, junk food but, by the time it gets to the end of January, they have fallen off the wagon.

When we ask why the same answer usually appears - “I wasn't seeing any results”.

To get results and stay motivated you must see changes, which means we need to become more aware of them and start looking.

At MHR Fitness we like to focus on something called non scale victories. These are ways you can track your progress without having to step on the scales.

The first non scale victory is taking progress pictures - visual progress is very powerful.

The second one is taking measurements as this will give you a true representation of what parts of your body are changing.

And the final one is to notice how your clothes are fitting. You might have an old pair of jeans you want to get back into. Your clothes won’t lie and will quickly show change.

On top of this take notice of other wins like increased energy and better quality sleep, you’ll soon start seeing positive changes consistently.

4. Be mindful about food and exercise

To achieve weight loss, we need to be mindful of food and exercise. We recommend exercising 3-5 times per week consistently and make sure you enjoy the exercise you are doing.

If you struggle with your nutrition then I would recommend keeping a food diary. Because what gets measured gets managed.

An app that we are big advocates of here at MHR Fitness is myfitnesspal. Using this app makes it possible to still eat the foods you enjoy whilst fitting these foods into your daily calorie allowance to achieve weight loss.

If you struggle with motivation and know you need to be held accountable, you might want to consider signing up for some group training or hiring an online coach.

5. Stay committed

It is inevitable that you will encounter some bumps along the way. However, it is absolutely key that you stay committed - try to enjoy the process as much as you can, too.

If the results came easy we wouldn’t appreciate them! Results never happen overnight, it takes time but I promise you, it’s worth it.

Let’s make 2021 a year where we get the results we want. Make sure you celebrate your wins along the way and keep reminding yourself that more wins will follow if you continue.
